We are pleased to welcome every newborn baby with a letter by the district administrator or the mayor of the respective community. We offer you that a specially trained family midwife/ children’s nurse will visit every family with a newborn baby or families with toddlers that recently moved here.
The specialist will hand over a “Baby welcome bag” which will inform you on everything you need to know about babies and on special courses for young mothers and fathers. Of course, the specialist will offer you to keep in touch if further questions arise.
The family midwives see themselves as:
You will be contacted approximately 4 – 6 weeks after the birth of your child. The mayor or the district administrator will send a letter congratulating you on the birth of your child. He/she will also ask if you want a family midwife to visit. If you agree, you have to return the enclosed reply card. Then, a midwife will give you a call and make an appointment. This appointment will take place six weeks after the birth of your child the earliest. Families which recently moved here also have the possibility to receive a visit by a family midwife if they have a baby who is not older than three months. In your “Baby welcome bag”, you will find information, e.g. on whom to contact in your town/administrative district if you need help or on leisure activities in your town/administrative district.
As a welcome present, the midwife will hand over a bag containing various convenient things, such as a cherry pit pack, a family tea, a beach ball, brochures, a nutrition guide and many more.
Subsequent assistance by the family midwife
If needed, the family midwife will visit you for a second time. Further consultation and support will also be available if necessary. After release of professional secrecy, you can authorise the midwife to contact official authorities (e.g. support by the Jugendamt (Youth Welfare Office) or a child protection authority) if you need any help.
